The population of Thailand

The share of people speaking in Thai, has approx. 85% of the population. Form the main core of Thai, or Siamese (khontay, tai HeH) - Thai people from the group. The national minorities are the Chinese, Lao, Khmer, Mon, Malay and settled mainly in the mountains, Karen, Shan, Akha, the fox, the Hmong (Miao), etc. The Siamese began to migrate south, outside of Thailand, in VII.from the territory of the modern province of Yunnan in China. They pushed and partially assimilated Hmong, who inhabited the land along the right bank r.Chao Praia, and Rouge, who lived on the eastern shore.
The second largest ethnic group is formed by the Chinese. Their ancestors arrived in the country in 1880-1930. Although the 1930-1940-s still-conflict along ethnic lines, they do not become a kind of sustained opposition, and so far the differences between the Chinese and Siamese largely smoothed out.
Another large ethnic community are Malays. The religious isolation (many Malaysians - Muslim by religion), proximity of Malaysia and historical disputes related to a boundary between British Malaya and Siam then, still generate separatist speeches Malays living in the south, and sometimes it comes to violent clashes.
