Linguists differ in opinion as to the origin of Thai (khontay, or Siamese) language. He probably belongs to the Thai-language kadayskoy group, which also includes Lao and Shan languages, but some experts is referred it to the Sino-Tibetan group. There are three main dialects: central Thai, which is widespread in Bangkok, serves as the official and literary language and taught in public schools; Thai-Yuan, common in the north and in places known as khammuang, the Thai-Lao, who are residents of the north-east and south-east of Thailand. In Thai rise and fall colors are used to distinguish between meaning and vocabulary consists mainly of monosyllabic words, although many polysyllabic words borrowed from other languages - Khmer, Pali and Sanskrit.
Karens and other mountain people speak different dialects that are listed as the Tibeto-Burman and the Mon-Khmer languages. The Malays use Javanese, Malay and close to having the Arabic script. The Chinese in the course of several southern Chinese dialects, especially teochu, as well as Mandarin.
